James Gouch Interview, Aug 2025

I just wrapped up my very first interview, and wow… it was a deep dive into my life, my past, and the moments that shaped me into who I am today.

We started with my upbringing in Detroit, MI; the good, the tough, and everything in between. I opened up about the events that led to my two life-changing amputations: first, losing my leg after being hit by a car, and later, losing my eye in a separate accident. These moments tested me in ways I never could have imagined.

But that’s not all I shared. I spoke honestly about my battle with addiction; the pain, the struggles, and how it affected every part of my life. More importantly, I talked about the turning point… the moment that shifted my mindset and sparked the breakthrough that changed everything for me.

This interview isn’t just about my past, it’s about resilience, redemption, and the drive to build something meaningful, like my foundation Amputees Are Awesome, which helps others in the amputee community chase their dreams and get the prosthetics they need.

I don’t want to give it all away here. If you really want to hear the full story, the laughter, the raw truth, and the moments that even surprised me as I was telling them, you’ve got to check out the full interview on YouTube.
